In line with Geely’s corporate global vision of producing the safest, most environmentally-friendly and most energy-efficient “New Energy Commercial Vehicles,” VIA Motors International, Inc., a leader of electric and hybrid drive systems offering a range of extended range (eREV) and EV commercial vehicles, today announces that it has completed an exclusive agreement with China based Zhejiang Geely New Energy Vehicle Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Commercial Vehicle Group.
The parties have agreed to co-develop a medium duty extended range electric truck, which incorporates VIA's industry leading proprietary vehicle software and systems control technology, for launch in China and the Americas in 2019.
Mr. Nathan Yu Ning, Zhejiang Geely Holding Vice President of International Business and Executive Advisor to the Board said "Geely selected VIA Motors due to the company's advanced commercial vehicle software and control systems technology, specifically developed to meet the demanding duty cycle and performance requirements of commercial vehicles."
"I believe that range extended hybrid drive systems are a leading technology for the next 5-10 years and the co-developed truck will utilize proven technology such as a Volvo engine for the range extender. VIA Motors provides technology plus an engineering and management team that can support GCV to accelerate to be global leading commercial vehicle company and assist the introduction of GCV Trucks into North and Latin America through our newly formed joint venture," continued Mr. Yu.
"VIA Motors is honored to partner with Geely Commercial Vehicles. This agreement allows VIA to execute our strategy with the launch of an expanded portfolio of advanced drive systems and vehicles," commented Peter Guile, CEO of VIA Motors. "We are excited to be working with our new global partners to electrify the future of the world’s working vehicles," he continued.
"Geely is the ideal strategic partner for VIA Motors, as the fastest growing global vehicle company, with a demonstrated commitment to the electrification of their portfolio of award winning vehicles," commented Bob Lutz, Chairman of VIA Motors and former Vice-Chairman of GM. "The alliance between Geely and VIA Motors combines technology, access to their industry leading suppliers, and a mutual entrepreneurial spirit dedicated to accelerating the global adoption of extended range electric commercial vehicles," further commented Mr. Lutz.

Vision: Electrify the world’s logistics vehicles.
Our mission is to accelerate the transition to “Green Logistics Vehicles” through electrification of commercial fleets, which will reduce their operating costs, improve their environmental footprint, and ensure their continued access to major urban centers.
VIA Motors International, Inc. a technology leader of Green Logistic Vehicles, has engaged in a test and evaluation Project with EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute). The program, sponsored by the United States Department of Energy (DOE), had as its purpose the development of a path to migrate plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology to light and medium duty vehicles by demonstrating and evaluating vehicles in diverse applications and suitability for widespread commercial vehicle use.
VIA Motors deployed a total of 177 vehicles (52 3/4T Vans, 125 1/2T pickup trucks) to 47 customer test fleets in 20 different States across the country.
“A large database for analysis was established with data collected on each participant's vehicle(s) in areas related to: electric motor application, battery usage, charger functionality, motor/engine torque, export power, fuel usage, mileage, etc.” noted Mark Kosowski, Technical Executive of EPRI.
“There were more than 34,000 events and over 203,000 miles and 58,000 hours of data collected on the VIA vehicles. On 80% usage of the battery’s 23 kWh capacity, the Pickup truck delivered a combined fleet average of 36.1 miles of electric range and the Van 33 miles. Combined battery/charge sustain efficiency delivered an overall fleet 63 mpg equivalency for the truck and 51 mpg for the Van, which numbers will increase with more frequent charging and electric miles driven” confirmed Mr. Kosowski.
“The program accomplished a number of favorable results.” stated Mr. Kosowski.
The findings from the EPRI program and our ongoing interface with all of our Fleet customers has provided our VIA team with valuable feedback for improvement of the technology and application to our next generation drive systems and vehicles as VIA pursues its mission: To accelerate the transition to ‘Green Logistics Vehicles’ through electrification of commercial fleets which will reduce operating costs, improve environmental footprints, and ensure fleet continued access to major urban centers and rural routes.

They had expired, but now they’re back… a 30% federal tax credit is available again in the US for EV charging equipment, and can be applied to purchases made in 2015 as well as through the end of the 2016. The DOE’s Alternative Fuels Data Center tracks incentives including those for electric vehicle charging infrastructure on federal, state, utility and municipal bases.
Government and utility incentives can make owning EV charging stations even more rewarding. Check out what grants, rebates and tax credits are available for purchasing and installing stations in your region by clicking the button below.
Businesses that purchase and install electric vehicle charging stations may be eligible for a tax credit of 30% of the qualifying costs, up to $30,000. The credit may be applied toward charging stations installed between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2016. Businesses with multiple sites are allowed to use the credit at each site. Permitting and inspection fees are not qualifying costs. This is a major bonus to businesses looking to upfit their location with more charging stations for their electric fleet. Please refer to the chargepoint website for more information and see if your state qualifies for this incentive.
